Embroidery in Seattle? and NYE

Dear lazyweb,

I've tried the Internet and it's not helping very much this time. Where in Seattle should I go to get a big question mark embroidered on my shirt lapels? A stock font would be great (and I presume cheaper), as I'm really not that concerned with screen accuracy.

In other news:

I enjoyed the Nerdvana NYE party immensely this year, and felt much better socialized for having attended. I got in the cuddle pile for the first time this year, and it was spectacular! Then I was wiped out for the entire next day. I don't drink alcohol, and did drink plenty of water. I have no idea how people who add alcohol to that mix can even stand up the next day.

I had a fantastic date with a new person that I hope to see more of. The endorphin high lasted over 24 hours. I could do with this much, much more often. Also he treated me unequivocally as a guy, as a guy that he wanted, which recharged my gender energy to the point that I could go to NYE in glorious flirty girl mode without feeling conflicted. With my new 1/4" long hair.

One of my dearest friends from college stayed at my house the nights before and after NYE, because I took the initiative of asking her when she would be in town. Initiative is surprisingly rewarding.

2011 retrospective: Getting fired was the best large life change to happen to me in a long time. I have a much better handle on initiative and the fact that falling on my face will not be fatal. These were good lessons.

Not that I have any particular insight into Seattle, but if I wanted something embroidered I'd call a sewing supply store that sells Bernina computer controlled sewing machines. They'll usually be happy to demonstrate the capabilities of their machines, which include lots of embroidery options, for a fairly reasonable fee.

Thank you. That brand name should help me get somewhere. Edit: Especially since it hadn't occurred to me to hit up a retailer of the machines.

I'm with you: the next day I was wiped out. But it was definitely a good way to get that way!

Aha! Your icon explains why I kept thinking the same image whenever I looked at your fishnets. I always parse it as a thumbprint-of-youness rather than an actual image, so didn't connect it.

You probably also saw the pics of me as BC from Halloween, which is why I own such high quality fishnets. (Because the first thing actually trying to fight crime in that outfit would destroy is actually the little jacket.)

Didn't I see Hackberbot playing with a computerized embroidery machine at some point?

Entirely possible. Hackerbot is a project space, right? I've never been.

Yep, Hackerbot Labs is a project space in South Seattle. They've had a computerized embroidery machine in the past; while I haven't seen it out lately, I do believe it's still around and in good working order. I could definitely inquire if you like.

I think I've got something lined up for this project. A pro will do a custom image for $40 or a stock font for $20, and I'm in discussion with one.

I'll bear it in mind for future mad science, though. Thanks!

I think I (very slightly) know someone who has CNC embroidering capabilities. If you can't find another source, drop me a note and I'll try to put you in touch.
