Straight up didn't care. If you read L's article link, you'll see that he really wasn't hiding from anyone, he just hadn't mentioned it to the press.

Frankly, given the flaming nature of all actor communities, I suspect that the press has a "unless they tell us they are, we don't bring it up" policy, tabloids excepted. So anyone but the current paparazzi victims are probably safe from exposure unless they do something really amusing in a nightclub.
