Snake on a Cat is brought to you by Purdy the cat, Eva the snake, and the very flexible Robin the housemate, who takes care of both and took all of these pictures while the entire arrangement slept on her lap.

No cats or snakes were harmed in the production of this cuteness, though Eva woke up rather hard when Purdy rolled over and Robin had to catch tumbling sleepy snake. But then they both went back to sleep.

That is a much smaller snake than I was picturing. Almost hard to tell what it is. Do you know what the darker spots mid-snake are? Some sort of false head thing?

She is a red tailed boa. She's got those spots all the way along, and more densely near the tail end; they don't look particularly face-like in person. Try the first and last picture on close-up for more detail. She's 24" long but curls up very small. She also likes camping out in Robin's hair.

Yep! Robin brought a snake. It is 24" long and slowly growing. Some day it will be 8' long like my old ball python buddy Olivia.

That cat is a virtual clone of my family's last cat.

The cat is actually imposingly large in person. The snake isn't quite as small as people are perceiving it here; it just curls up tight and is sitting on a frickin' huge cat.

That's very cute, it reminds me of when you held Olivia (6ft boa I lived with), and she curled up under your sweater as you lay down to sleep.

Thanks for the reminder! My favorite memory of Olivia is when she tried to crawl up the leg of my pajama pants and I had to inch the pants off to get her back out. (She'd turned around, making a double-width of snake sharing the pant leg with me.)
