For anyone who'd like to reproduce this, *all* I did was print out one of the standard images, about 500 by 500 px (took up most of the width of a piece of paper) and started using the little poky tool from my carving set to line out the shapes. So it wouldn't fall apart, I used the hole puncher tool (which is also the poky tool) for the main figure-8 part and the outside rim.
