Happy Birthday to me.

Update as of my 25th Birthday: Life is good.

It feels strange, even when I haven't posted or read in two months, not to make some kind of "this is where I stand" notation on my birthday. That is what this will be. The next post will be the party announcement.

I'm working at Children's Hospital as a Patient Care Coordinator (read: scheduler). The coworkers are friendly, and the work isn't bad, and it isn't boring, but the workload is unspeakable and I'm too ethical, so I stress when I'm delaying a kid's autism eval because I can't find the paperwork.

I'm knitting aggressively. I'm taking tango lessons every Wednesday. I'm making chainmail for the first time. I've bought materials for beadwork and essential oils perfumery, but haven't opened them yet.

I'm reading Philip Pullman and Michael Marshall Smith and the two newest Pratchetts and Kit Marlowe and Taking Charge of Your Fertility and the Action Heroine's Handbook and the Fairy Tales comic book for the first time. I'm reading David Eddings for the twentieth time.

I'm watching Van Helsing and falling ludicrously in love with it (I've gone three times) because the cheese is so obviously deliberate that I just want to shake the director's hand. I'm watching Troy and liking Achilles because he's just as arrogant as in the original, but giggling like mad at Orlando Bloom's attempt to not look like Legolas while holding a bow and arrow.

I'm burning with the desire to write an LJ post in loving detail about each one of these things, but I just haven't the time.

One of my friends is in the last stages of cancer. I don't particularly feel like writing about that, but it's worth noting.

Life is beautiful, I'm drinking it by the gulping mouthful, and between all of this I don't have the energy to even call people, let alone read an hour of LJ a day. When I come back, you can consider it a pretty sure sign that I've settled on an obsession sturdy enough to last at least a year.

I have to think about what that means, that maybe if I stayed out of a crazy-love relationship with a new fandom, I'd get a lot more living done. But then, I don't know how one keeps from falling in love.

June 2 is my birthday. This is my party. I will be available at my house between 11 am and ll pm. If you want to come party with me, show up. If you want food, bring food.

You are invited if: You're reading this and you can be polite to my other guests. If you want to bring a gang of people I've never met, go ahead, but call first. I don't expect to be able to call all the people I'd like to attend, so please spread the word. Edit: Yes, this post is intentionally unlocked.

Getting there: I live at the Casa Del Biomass on Capitol Hill. If you know where that is, great. If you don't, call my cel (see LJ archive), e-mail, or comment and I'll hook you up.

Foods I really like: Strawberries, angel food cake, chocolate in almost any form (especially dark), whipped cream, things with meat in (especially with gravy), things without meat in, fresh vegetables, sour fruits, watermelon.

Foods I am less fond of: Bell peppers, very spicy food, sweet entrees (including sweet'n'sour), melons other than watermelon.

I don't have a particular need for gifts, but if you happen to have already gotten something for me, I do enjoy getting presents. If you really feel excited about the idea of getting me things, but don't know what I want, call me up and I am cheerfully self-centered enough to give you suggestions.

[Edit: Upon someone having actually asked me, I realized I do have some vaguely specific suggestions. Music that you think I might not have that I'd enjoy. I really like new music. Cheap books that you think I'd like reading. Those of you with more exotic tastes, inquire within, nudge nudge.]
