I dream that I am going to a lecture series. I am unspeakably excited because they got David Bowie as a guest lecturer. The place is, of course, packed to the rafters with people attending this lecture, and I'm trying to figure out where he'll be standing so I can decide on the best seat in advance. We all settle in.

Then it turns out the schedule was poorly communicated. It's not that David Bowie isn't coming, but he's not coming today... The guest lecturer today is President George W. Bush. A full day of self-promotion and telling us all what a nice guy he is and how his administration is working for us. His wife is there as well, giving a supporting speech during one of his breaks, and they're handing out lots of glossy promotional books that are completely worthless, like, "Interesting Facts from the Life of Dick Cheney" and "Violent Movie Recommendations of Condoleeza Rice." Yes, I actually remember both of those titles. I flipped through them. Worthless soundbites, I couldn't even focus on them. A lot like the speeches.

I was so bored I fell asleep and thus missed it when they handed out the only freebie book that looked at all substansive, a full-length biography of George W. Bush. At some point I wandered outside to the attached zoo exhibit and a day-glo orange giraffe bit my finger. It was my own fault for holding my hand out to a wild animal, but I still don't like the crunch sound of my finger bones getting bitten.

In conclusion, I am afraid that library school will not be as sexy as I wish it would be.

Yesterday I got laundry done and then nabbed two local friends to wander in the pouring rain with me. It was, sadly, no longer pouring when we set out, but still very drippy, and we spent two hours admiring headstone art in the giant cemetery near my house. (We did not find Bruce and Brandon Lee, but we also were not looking with any particular fervor. Many of the Chinese headstones are stunningly beautiful, though.)

The fog rolled in. Everything was quiet. It was lovely. We went home and drank hot cocoa and ate freshly baked bread.

This weekend I also attended a games night at home and watched Poirot and a bit of Firefly. I seem to be filling my life with the things I want in it. I'm really happy with that.
