Edit: Hold the phone, this conflicts with a class that it took me forever to authorize through work. Argh. I will report back.

Edit again: At this point the cost-benefit analysis just keeps sinking. See next post. Sigh.

So despite not having updated since Thanksgiving (and I did have a lovely December and enjoyed Snowpocalypse immensely, thanks), I am now posting about the future instead.

I'm seriously considering going to Gallifrey One, the big ol' Doctor Who convention. It's in LA, Feb 13-15. I was actually planning on getting all this booked months ago, but having a look, I'm not actually too late yet. Costs look like:

3 days off work (Thursday through Monday)
Con registration: $65 per person
Plane fare from SEA: $192 per person
Hotel (2 nights): $200 to $280, split up to four ways.

(I'm currently proposing that two of my darlings join me in this madness. We'll see if they do.)

So, the chances I could split a hotel room with you if you wanted to go are slim, but existent, and you might want to go anyway, especially if you already knew your good friend Gement was going to be there. I am just bringing this to your attention before it is too late.

They got Ianto, and Colin Baker, and my favorite Dr. Who writer in the Universe, Paul Cornell. Also, the awesome [livejournal.com profile] rm who I know rather more about than those other people, and would really like to meet. (Yes, RM, it's your fault I'm seriously considering attending.) The panels and activities look fun.

Drop a line. Tell me if I might see you there.

Not this year anyway. Even if I do have the hat.

(No, I'm not kidding. My Hat of Gallifrey is not eight inches from my hand. Thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] garillama.)

New cost-benefit analysis:
3 days vacation to go
Con membership (per person): $65
Plane fare (per person): $192
Hotel room (3 nights to avoid insanity): $300-$400
Food: Not figured in on the first go-round
3 days vacation to take alternate class
Renegotiating class with boss after I fought tooth and nail to get training as soon as possible
Neither of my darlings (nor my backup emergency darling) turns out to be available to go, old school fans though they be.

It's just not adding up. [livejournal.com profile] rm, thanks for the offer of hotel arrangements, and perhaps I will arrange my plans better next year. Have a drink with Mr. Cornell for me.

I'm very afraid that I'm at a crest of my fan energy right now, and that next year won't be as amazing or golden, and it will be somewhere far away that's much more expensive to fly to. All of these things may be true. Also, my Hat of Rassilon may have pills on it from overwearing by then. Somehow, I must carry on. It's all good. This is a poor little rich girl problem, and I know it. ;)
