There was a little bird in our kitchen this morning, fluttering around at ceiling level and unable to see that six inches down there were several wide open windows and a door. It eventually stumbled in exhaustion, landed by a window, and was in the process of climbing the curtain cord past the open window when I held up a dish towel against the cord so all it could see was the outside. It still took more than ten seconds to get past its frozen panic and figure it out.

This seems symbolic.

For those of you who have asked, my job at PictureCompany is to sit down with four other people and a supervisor and do the human bits of sqashing two giant databases together. The computers have done all that they can. The job was advertised as a "keyword cleanup project." I am assured that we're not supposed to correct each error by hand, more find an error and figure out how to correct its 8000 brothers and sisters with a command, then do it again. It should be interesting.

Self-care Update: I did 20 minutes of sitting meditation today. It was dull and my back ached a little, but I still need to settle on the right position and height of pillow, so I think the back thing will settle out. The waves of claustrophobia in which it took all my attention to keep sitting still, those I didn't expect. The trick will be repeating this performance tomorrow. And the next day. And the... yeah.

Hometown Update: Three Ozzfestians crashed in my living room last night after startling the Bejeebers out of Jason... I had neglected to remind him they were coming, and I was out with [livejournal.com profile] spaced at the time, so he's just got these three weirdos, one in a mohawk, showing up on the doorstep, saying, "Gement said we could stay here tonight?" But it All Worked Out. And they brought me house gifts and left Cheesecake Factory leftovers!

Music Update: [livejournal.com profile] spaced loaned me the MC Lars CD, "The Graduate," featuring the WONDERFUL song Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock. There's also one about Emo, one from the perspective of Captain Ahab, and one about sci-fi that's so geeky it's worthy of the Trio from Buffy Season 6.

Buffy Update: Jason and I pounded through the second half of Season 5 and the first half of Season 6 in the last month, and I'm being so good, I'm keeping my mouth so totally shut about coming developments that he still refers to Andrew as "what's-his-name's-brother" who is weak and can therefore be discounted from critical plot developments. Mwahahahahahahahhhhh.

Internet Update: I'm now on a total YouTube jag, surfing the wide world of Sesame Street sketches lovingly shared by viewers like me. Heeeeere, fishy fishy fishy!
