Today at work I changed my hair four times. Center part, top section clipped straight back, side part, tousled side swoop. I couldn't leave it alone. I could change my entire hair with two minutes and a comb.

I'm tempted to say, "I should have done this years ago," but I think it's better to say, "I seem to have the perfect energy to enjoy this Right Now, which is splendid. I'm glad I waited until I had the time and brains and circumstances to appreciate it."

After work, knowing that there is an impending Jazz Club date and I have new sexy hair that does not match any of my meager collection of Lame Dresses For People With Long Braids, I went to Goodwill in search of a little black dress. Or rather, a Little Black Dress. My shopping karma has apparently been accruing for a while, because this was my shopping process:

Grab everything off the rack between sizes 6 and 14 that appears to be approximately LBD-shaped, with a couple outliers in dark colors that looked nice. Result: 10 dresses. I tried them all on. Every one of them fit, though some were a bit tight or loose. I tried on 7, setting each in the "It fits okay, but I'm not really sure about how it hangs/stretches/suits me" stack.

The last three were all perfect. Actually perfect. I thought, "Maybe I've been trying things on too long." So I tried the other 7 on again in reverse order, finding all the same problems with them, and then the perfect three, which were still perfect, and look fabulous with my new hair. So I got them.

Result: One LBD, dead-cheap, stretch polyester, neutral tailoring, identical to my Long Black Dress in case I'm ever recruited by an orchestra or something except much, much shorter and it does that twirly thing at the hem. So damn cute. $6.

One linen dress, a black layer over a white layer, that looks like a fairly boring square-frame black dress until I walk and it splits up to THERE on the sides, showing the white layer and saying, "Oh, by the way, she has HIPS!" Also, the white layer has pockets. $8.

One beaded burgundy chanteuse dress, past floor length. I need to have it hemmed, because I ain't learning to walk in 4" heels, much as this dress inspires me to try. It catches at the neck, then slinks alllll the way down, doing that tummy bump thing that is to die for when I see it on other women. And now it is mine. Mwhahahahahahahahah. $20, and worth it for the dreams alone, even if I don't get around to getting it hemmed.

Then I went to housewares, where I replenished our housemate-depleted dish collection with actually-matching Corelle-ware, a concept that boggled my mind. Even the glasses were there. Boggle boggle boggle. Got 4 water glasses, 5 plates, 3 bowls, 7 dessert plates, and 5 dessert bowls. (Memo to [livejournal.com profile] lunar__angel, call off the Corelle hunt, I'm covered.)

The full-sized plates, full-sized bowls, and two of the water glasses are of a matching Corelle pattern of purple/blue/green stripes. I didn't know Corelle even made water glasses! They are, predictably, straight-sided, nicely proportioned, sturdy, and utterly sensible. I am easily delighted. <$20.

Then I came back by two buses, missing my transfer by a single stoplight. That left me with a half-hour wait in sight of my favorite grocery store. I grabbed a flat of raspberries and ice cream fixings. It still feels crazy indulgent to buy multiple pints of cream and half-and-half.

Came home. Did dishes. Made the base for super-dark chocolate ice cream. Licking the spoon tasted like brownie batter; this stuff is going to be incredible. Did more dishes.

Decided which new sassy dress to wear to date tomorrow. Packed a bag of very femme accessory hair clips, underwear, shoes and makeup.

Painted my toenails purple. Posting while waiting for them to dry.

Life is REALLY good.

Pictures.... did I miss the hair pictures? I didn't see any hair pictures. Going stir crazy checking internet for new hair pictures.

You'd better hem/get hemmed that new long dress soon - it sounds gorgeous and it will be that much more likely to be worn if it's ready to go.

I knew Corelle made glasses ;P I love mine. They're just the way you describe - nicely proportioned, straight sided, sturdy, sensible. Although, over the past 8 years of use... a couple of mine have broken. They do not easily break. None of my Corelle plates have broken, though.

If you can wait until 14 August, when summer quarter is finished, I can most likely hem your dress - justneed to see what type of hemming would work best, or if ruching up the length would make it happy. 8)

I've also got some vest patterns to talk to you about, with a few bits of pretty fabric, courtesy of Mr. H. One of the fabrics is a blue and olive/gold deco pattern, in a colour tone that I think would be smashing on you.

This post is useless without pictures. ;)

Hooray! Thank you for being the first to mention the music reference. I'm sure you're not the first to notice it, but it's just nice to know I'm not just talking to myself when I make these little jokes.

And really, how often do I have a chance to use those "I don't think it means what you think it means" phrases from old songs?
