Today is the first official day of my new-old job.
I moved desks last Thursday, including cleaning out a former coworker's things (a little creepy) and chucking a lot of paperwork from the QA department that I won't be needing now. My new space feels sparkling and clean, I have an east window, and all my old coworkers seem startlingly happy to see me.
The HR person who knows the troubles I had in QA dropped by just now with copies of my paperwork, patted me on the shoulder, and said, "Welcome home."
I made cuff links this morning using only items found in a gas station sewing kit, and I am wearing a shirt with French cuffs for the first time in my life. I have accessorized with a pin-striped vest and a stuffed monkey with long Velcro arms as a tie. It's a howler monkey. My coworkers keep asking me to push the button and make it howl again.
I am archiving all my old email, and for the first time in two years have nothing in my inbox.
I exist on PostCrossing! See me? http://www.postcrossing.com/user/gement/ I was waiting days and days for any of my postcards to arrive, but now I have evidence that my presence has been felt in Germany and Lithuania! (Five more are in the air, all to different countries. I'm terribly excited.)
This weekend, thanks to
arjache's mostly gentle encouragement, I geeked out over piles of library books on 18th C. mountaineering, and may actually have traction on fixing the first part of my book. Which has been the stopping point on submitting to agents or publishers for over a year.
Things are moving.
