Update: Party has moved to Saturday June 4. New details, otherwise just like the old details.

Let it be known there's a mathom party at my house on the coming Saturday. I figure the heaviest concentration will be between 1pm and 5pm, but I'm happy to hang out, talk, eat, and mock useless possessions until at least 9 or 10.

Who can come:
- Anyone I've met in person or exchanged more than 5 LJ comments with who can make it to Seattle.

What you can bring (all optional):
- Anything you're willing to take away again if no one grabs it.
- Snacks.
- Offers to haul things away to charity at the end of the day.
- Well-wishes for my upcoming Birthday. (A lovely round 32 years old!)

What you can take:
- Any of my mathoms.
- Any of anyone else's mathoms.
- Any snacks you can get your hands on.

If I have you friended, you have access to my address in the top post of my journal. If I don't, ping me and I'll send you details.

So is there a canonical source for how "mu" is used in this community? Because I've heard a few off the cuff explanation, but they vary a lot from my understanding of the source material...

I have no idea how it's used in the local geek culture. I am only going from the story about the puppy.

Does the puppy have the buddha nature? Mu.
Does the puppy not have the buddha nature? Mu.

I take it to mean either "the question is the wrong question" or "there is no right answer." In this case, there is no right answer listed seemed like a close approximation.

Mu is the Sanskrit Śūnyatā(शून्यता). This is the philosophical ancestor to mathematical zero and the empty set. In ideogramic form, it is represented by a handful of straw being cast on a fire.

Q:Which is more important, the 32nd birthday of [livejournal.com profile] gement, or the 100th birthday of the NYC Public Library.
A: Mu, dumbass!

So you are using it absolutely correctly.8-)

I'd rather be bringing snacks. 8-(

P.S. Guess which word I just added to spell check.

"ideogramic" according to my spellcheck. :P A quick inquiry to the internet suggests that ideographic is preferred.
