I've been totally jagging on Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, which is free to listen, cheap to buy, and damn delicious. I often have to ration my ear stamina against the clatter and scream she likes to mix in, but this is live so it's more ear-friendly than a lot of her studio stuff.
My biggest fixation is the song "In My Mind," which is about my Fear of Missing Something*, but it's been branching out to the rest of the album, which ranges from melancholy to funny to filthy to just plain weird.
When I was getting really anxious about jobhunting just before my trip to the hometown, I got out oil pastels and wrote out all the lyrics to "Australia" in varying styles so it looked like it sounded. "Vegemite (The Black Death)" also got a lot of mental airtime. But what grabbed me today?
"The Ship Song," which turns out to be a Nick Cave cover and has overpoweringly turned into a River/Doctor fanvid in my head. I haven't watched past The Doctor's Wife, for the record, so I'm sure I'm already well behind on which clips should be in it. It shouldn't be made until Things Are Settled, really, but there you go. The weirdest part is wondering if Neil Gaiman is building a similar fanvid in his head, but that's just my moment of RPF for the year.
Come sail your ships around me /
and burn your bridges down /
We'll make a little history, baby /
every time you come around
The search problem, as promised, is figuring out if the vid has been made. Vids are often hard to search for in the first place, but this one's hilarious.
It's called "The Ship Song." I wish to find where it is used regarding a ship between two characters, one of whom is named Doctor and the other of whom is named Doctor River Song. By the way, there are a number of other songs called The River or [Something] River Song. Limiting by both artist names helps... some.
So I'm constructing things like +"ship song" +"river song" "nick cave" "amanda palmer" "doctor who"
The completely legitimate results are vids to Amanda Palmer's "Astronaut" and fic tags like "Ship: Song/11." It's like looking at one of those vase/face drawings, only I really need the search engine to see them both at the same time. :)
* I've filked out about half of "In My Mind" with my own insecurities, since the first time I heard it, I immediately filled in my own tattoo plan.
and when they put me in the ground /
I'll start pounding the lid /
saying I haven't finished yet /
I still have a tattoo to get /
that saysI'm living in the moment I'm ready to be a Time Lord.
But that tattoo plan is another post.
