So about the briefly mentioned new person from a few posts ago...

He messaged me on OKCupid and I missed it for months because the message arrived (wait for it) while I was at Folsom Street Fair wondering if anyone like him would ever want someone like me. Within an hour of my finding his message, we'd made a lunch date.

His interests include making up fake Old Guard leather traditions, transmasculine guys, and Thai kickboxing. He's a sometime Marine NCO.

He took me out to make introductions at the Blood Sweat and Queers party on Saturday night, because I want to be better-connected and thus less-anxious in the local public scene. He told me later that "you were the belle of the ball" and he forwarded a couple of contact requests.

We then played hard enough that I ended up taking Monday off work. (Not injured, just messed up my electrolytes by not hydrating enough on Sunday.) In addition to hydrating better, etc., etc., he says more exercise and higher metabolism help with biochemical garbage collection. So I've been started on a push-ups and core strength regimen.

In related news, my mom continues to know me eerily better than I thought. From our chat log:
gement: He's... pretty dreamy.
gement: His name's [...], and he's very unlike most of the people I date.
mom: knuckle push-ups in the gravel?
My mother, ladies and gentlemen.

I do not know how serious this will get, but he's contacting me a lot more often than I would expect from a "let's play once in a while" contact. I am trying to stay cool, but eeeeee.

You're a pretty dreamy dude, so I can hardly say I'm surprised.
And yeah, a heavy-duty exercise regimen totally helps you plow through toxic bilge every now and then: your body learns how to just shuffle stuff right on through without a complaint.

Flattery will get you everywhere.

I can do 1.5 real pushups or 19 knee pushups without resting as of this week. My upper body strength was never that brilliant to start with, and when I got an RSI a few years back it got completely shot. I've been meaning to do something about that, to prevent reinjury, but I had no idea where to start.

Former Marine says: the cure for not being able to do pushups is more pushups.
