[This post is backdated to the time that I was thinking the entry.]

Dear GOD, that's a lot of books!

Today, I visited all 800 booths of the PLA Exhibit Hall (known at scifi cons as the dealer's room and among purchasers as the vendors). I was handed approximately 30 lbs. of free books, to match the 30 lbs. of free books I was handed yesterday.

I was also given a beanie baby hummingbird in a beret and tux shirt, and offered innumerable free pens. The most practical swag was the free totebags, which I used to carry the other stuff. The most practical swag that they were NOT offering would have been a pack mule, or at least a cushion to put between my shoulder and the bag straps.

My feet hurt unspeakably. My shoes, while a comfortable fit, have perfectly flat, unpadded soles. Dr. Scholls will be my friend tomorrow, this I swear. By the end of the day I had interacted with so many people and taken in so much visual input I was just numb. Totally numb. But with excruciating feet.

New learning for the day: If I go up to a book booth (particularly children's books) and sound really interested in a series, they'll hand me one. I feel no guilt about this, as I'm careful to tell them I'm a volunteer at the beginning of conversations.

Best score of the day: I won a second, AUTOGRAPHED Librarian Action Figure. To Marilee, Future Librarian - Nancy Pearl. (She was the model, and an incredibly cool role model.) Everyone who came to see her talk already had an action figure; it was pretty funny. Apparently it is Archie McPhee's best selling action figure now, outselling Jesus, Moses and Benjamin Franklin. I should probably write another entry just about her.

Now I go do it again tomorrow. Maybe I won't get 30 lbs. of books this time. But I said that this morning.
