Ribena, perhaps. (Ever had that stuff? Pure toothrot.)

One good late-night Forever Knight binge (I even watched the third episode during the correct CBS time slot) and it's worked its magic. Again, the years of shame and apology are washed away, and I have no idea why I ever looked at the ground when I said, "Yes, I may have been a rabid fan of that show..."

Aside from the ham-handed scripts and School of Lestat acting, of course. At midnight, alone, when I can yell at the screen, even those somehow add to the experience, like the dregs in a cup of Turkish coffee. (Don't drink the cup.)

But I remember again that, actually watching him, even with his whining excuse for a conscience, I didn't hate Nick. He's kind of cute. Even if he is almost wearing a neon sign over his head reading, "I AM ALLERGIC TO SUNLIGHT, GARLIC, CROSSES, AND THE SIGHT OF BLOOD, DON'T YOU GET THIS YET?"

As a side note to my dear [livejournal.com profile] annissag, I have now seen the infamous "Flintstone vitamin" incident you once told me about. I get it now. It was a garlic pill. It's much funnier as a Flintstone vitamin.

Lacroix can still be my daddy any day, though. Some things never change.

Edit: There were a couple things I wanted to say, but the entry is already quite long for the non-Knighters in the crowd, so I put them in a comment.

Ah, Forever Knight. I've missed that show. I remember calling you at like 8PM so we could stay up and watch it together over the phone. As Jerri Blank would say, "Good times!" I never hated Nick...I thought he was homely, but I never hated him.

It was one of those things that happened in retrospect. In retrospect he was such a self-conflicted hypocrite that I couldn't remember how I had ever stood to watch him, just like I couldn't remember Janette's hair looking like anything but a deranged gothic crow's nest.

Oh, oh! Additions!

I really appreciated the details on this DVD. It started with the Crimetime After Primetime splash, and put the CBS surroundsound bug on the screen in the first episode. These are very powerful subliminal cues, at least to me, that tell me, "Relax. This is not some sterile cookie cutter DVD collection. It's midnight and you're watching FK on CBS!"

Notes to Dr. Natalie Lambert: Where in your medical training did you confuse "phobia" with "violent skin-searing or nauseating allergy"? Where did you get the idea that aversion therapy was the best cure for vampirism. It seems like an AA meeting is a better shot, and the AA crowd is very clear on the point that they are a support group, not detox.

Also, Nat, word to the wise, use less bright red in your make up.

See, THIS is why I like you (well one reason, anyway). You are such a cool geek. You geek out harder than I ever do, and that's...just...cool.

Personally, I'd like to see the series. It sounds interesting, between this and your talking about it earlier.

mmmm, ribena. I sucked through more of those little boxes than I can count when I was in London. I know a place to get the concentrated syrup in Redmond, but it's not quite the same...

I've never seen it out of concentrated form, but my dear [livejournal.com profile] cinnamonteal, she who gifted me with the FK-geek sword pin, gave me a bottle of the concentrate from the Highland Games a couple years back.

It's an old joke from the FK fan lists (to which I never subscribed, but I heard about it) that undiluted Ribena looks almost identical to FK blood.

The idea of sucking it out of a juice box is obscurely amusing for obvious reasons. ("Juice box" - the new slang for a vamp groupie?)

The thing I noticed watching this time? Natalie just seemed so meddlesome, and kinda whiny. I'm sure I have some personal reason for seeing her this way now, and not then.
