I'm having one of those hyperconnected days, where everything leads to everything else by a string of closer random association than usual. This means I find lots of extra meaning in song lyrics.

In this case (and perhaps three of my readers will get this), I heard a really sappy duet at Arby's today, with the line, "You were always there to be my Destiny."

Suddenly I was back at Mortal Kombat on big screen with [livejournal.com profile] annissag, with "Every man has his own Destiny" booming out over us, and we were torn between shaking with laughter and twitching with fear. (We went to school with Destiny. Not making this up.)

This level of hyperconnected goes with high emotion. In the car I realized Bittersweet Symphony sounded exactly like Dream (the one related to the other Destiny), and got a catch in my throat as they pounded out,

I'm a million different people from one day to the next,
I can't change my mold, no no no no no...

Over and over.

Here's to changing my mold.

Great song

I've always wanted to know what section of music they sampled from the Rolling Stones for that song...

Sweet as she is, I wouldn't want my own Destiny.

You react to Bittersweet Symphony much as I react to VNV Nation's "Dark Angel", which is as much an homage to Gaiman's Lucifer as ever I heard. I played that for you, rmemeber? As I recall it floored you, literally. ^_~ Dammit, I need to burn you a big ol' CD of music for the next time you come through town.

I often tell the "his own Destiny" story. I clearly remember the image it brought to my head. A crowded plaza. Each person has a hang-dog expression and a 2-foot tall Destiny on a leash. Long shadows.

I recently got an update on how she's doing. Very sad.

Did you really? How is she doing? Is there a way of contacting her?

Right now I know of no way of contacting her. As you might know she got married to a man named Mike and had a baby girl that they named Ashlyn. Then her husband left her. One day shortly after he left, she decided to take Ashlyn to the park. On the way there she realized she was driving right behind Mike. So she rammed him. Then she got out of the car and started screaming and trying to attack him and the girl he was with. So that got her in trouble with the navy. She's been in jail at least twice. She's lost her daughter. Right now she's homeless. She can't leave the state while she's on probation. It's really a mess.

I got the first part of this story from Destiny herself. The part after she went to jail I got from Stauche and Crystal so parts of it may be wildly inaccurate from being passed from Des to Stauche and then from Stauche to me and then from me to you. The first part that Destiny told me isn't written the way she told me. According to Destiny she was so distraught at seeing Mike in the car ahead of her that she didn't realize that the car had stopped and she accidentally hit them. Then she said she got out of the car to talk to Mike and the girl and kept saying, "Why are you with my husband." However, her telling of the story isn't very realistic and it doesn't fit the punishment the navy gave her.

Once in a while she will call Stauche and Crystal. If you'd like, I can ask them to tell her to contact you. Gement has my email address if you want to send your phone number. Be forewarned, she will probably call collect.

Wow. I had no idea. The last I heard was Mike leaving, and Christine was out there caring for Ashlyn. This is a lot worse than I expected.
