Random censorship makes me want to spit. Apparently, deaf people need to be protected from Bewitched. A more complete collection of links on the subject is in this entry from [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman.

Edit: it's been kindly pointed out that this is not censorship, just capricious use of government funding. Good point. Still stupid.

Also, yes, I support gay marriage. I support a lot of things. I don't feel a particular need to copy the html bumper sticker, though. (No slam on those who do. I just don't.) Another edit: I will put up this bumper sticker:

Neopolitan Ice-Cream Is, Like, Cool.

And finally, I stayed up too late every night this weekend. Foolish, foolish, crabby me. I read a lot of brain-breaking Spike/Xander. Don't ask me why. I was in a mood.

Don't hate me for this, but this isn't censorship. Yes, the reason given is moronic and closeminded, and it's a really bad reason for the government to have, but nobody is preventing the show from being close captioned by the network that owns it. The government just isn't going to pay for the close captioning.

Yeah. Censorship, it isn't. A trend towards a more biased socialist state, it is.

Don't mind me, I'm just the Libertarian behind the curtain.

I'm not saying I'm happy with the decision or a lot of things that the current administration does, but censorship it ain't.

My bad. I was sleep-deprived and grouchy. In fact, I still am.

I think I somehow made the assumption that government funding was the only thing that caused closed-captioning to happen (which may still be true, come to think of it...). Still, an important line.

The networks can fund it if they feel like spending the money to keep deaf viewers... who can still SEE the advertisements...

It's a rediculous and lame reason, and anything that obviously religious should be sending off warning bells across our whole separated from the church government. But despite all that, only corporate greed is going to keep the deaf from watching those shows.
