We are accepting applications for a fourth housemate in our 4-bedroom Greenlake home. I'm opening this to LJ before craigslist, because that way I have a better chance of getting a personal reference and a better fit. Tell your friends, tell your friends' friends, check it out.

The details

Short form: 4br/2ba house, washer&dryer, broadband internet, fireplace, no dishwasher, no cable TV.
Rent: $463/mo for a room, $712 deposit (4 people).
We split utilities and food bills as appropriate. If the number of housemates goes down to three, rent and utilities go up proportionally. Our lease is annual and rolls over on September 1.

Location

  • Close to the 48, 16, and 66 Metro bus routes - That's Downtown, U-District, Wallingford, Greenwood.
  • Northeast of Greenlake by 3 blocks; you can see the lake from the living room window.
  • Right next to the public library and trendy Greenlake restaurant/exercise/shopping district.
  • House is in a dead-end, so no traffic zooming past, but still easily accessed by foot, bus, bike or car.

What we have

  • The room: Ground floor southwest-facing bedroom, hardwood floor, large closet.
  • Spacious living room with fireplace, decent size kitchen, big closets.
  • Two full bathrooms, one upstairs (ground floor)/one downstairs (basement).
  • Large laundry room, washer, dryer.
  • Big grassy back yard, reasonable front yard (both unfenced).
  • Decent street or driveway parking (garage is spoken for).
  • Most household furnishings and kitchenware.
  • Oil furnace (water heat in the ceiling), electric water heater.
  • Broadband internet.
  • Responsive landlord.
  • One roommate with a car.
  • A cute kitten.

What we don't have

  • A dishwasher.
  • Cable TV.
  • The heat on very often.
  • Room for more pets.

Who already lives there

  • Me, first year grad student in Library and Information Science. Note the first year grad student part.
  • Jason, my partner, works for InsuranceMegaCorp, applying to my graduate program for next year.
  • Jess, a grade school teacher at a deaf school, applying to graduate programs around the country for next year. She will probably move out in the summer.
  • Miss Molly Malone, a black and grey tabby kitten who likes toes, crumply paper and jingle balls. She will move when Jess does.

General Expectations

We're all big geeks here one way or another. You do not have to share any of our particular interests, but be aware that the household contains at least one of each of the following:
  • Queer person (in the sexual identity way)
  • Organic and ethical food devotee
  • Meat-eater
  • Science fiction fan
  • PBS or NPR indoctrinee
  • Mid-20th Century old-culture junkie
  • Public library addict
  • Clinically depressed or bipolar person (with appropriate professional support)
  • First year grad student or grad student applicant
  • Toe biting fiend
If any of those freak you out, we might not be a good match. The house tends to quiet down around 9 or 10 pm and start up between 6 and 7 am. We buy frugally, but try to pick healthy and ethical foods when possible. We wash plastic bags, and we tend to turn the heat up just long enough that the living room is comfortable in a sweater.

We haven't got the house entirely "put together" yet, due to some problems on move-in and everyone being busy all the time. We still need to hang insulating curtains in the living room, etc. Much of the basement storage space is currently full of stuff from two of our bedrooms because we haven't managed to move in yet. There's stuff to do, and we hoped to have it done before looking for another person, but we could all use the cut in rent. Please bear with us; the boxes in the laundry room will be absorbed by bedrooms, promise.

If you're looking for a place near bus routes, near Greenlake, with mildly hippy-ish grad-studenty roommates and a cat, come on down! (Comment, write to gement @ livejournal . com , or phone. I won't write my phone number here, but I authorize anyone who reads this to give my number to interested parties.)
