I like having an EMT housemate.
May. 31st, 2008 10:18 amBefore I say any more, I'M FINE. Thank you,
shrike30 for assessing my foot and giving me a ride to the ER this morning. (We are about to leave.)
I went to bed last night whining because my foot was a little sore and I didn't know why. It felt like my big toe joint needed to pop, or a slight muscle strain. I woke up this morning with constant soreness, and stabbing pain when I tried to walk. shrike30 kindly poked at it for me, and J ran fetch-and-carry.
Tentative prognosis: Fracture. Possible reason: NO IDEA. I wasn't even sitting on my foot funny last night. Bodies are weird. But it's iced and splinted and wrapped and elevated, and on we go to get it irradiated!
Update, 4:45 p.m.: So, I went to the ER at 10:30 and they discharged me at 3:00 with a diagnosis of (I kid you not) "Foot pain." X-ray shows no fracture. J sat with me until he had to go to the library.
meowse gave me a ride home.
I know it's important to get these things checked out, but it's very frustrating to spend 4.5 hours and a sizable copay to determine that I should go home, put my foot up, and apply ice and ibuprofen, just like I was going to do anyway.
Better than having some weird brittle-bone disease, but oy.

Date: 2008-05-31 07:37 pm (UTC)I probably have a stress fracture in my left foot at the moment, too, and couldn't tell you what I did. I base the high probability, though, on it's similarity to somethe that happened (equally randomly) to my right foot about a year and a half ago.
Good luck and Good Shoes!

Date: 2008-05-31 07:49 pm (UTC)I broke a bone in my foot tripping over a phone cord; apparently the little suckers are actually fairly fragile. Purple cast for weeks, including a trip across the country by air. (Joy.) ((OTOH, that's the trip where I first met
