We moved all the furniture. We rented a Zipcar. We rented a RugDoctor. We spent 6 hours or so running the Rug Doctor over our living room/dining room/hallway. Is it supposed to take that long? It took a long long long time. I hurt all over.
Meanwhile we listed the house and got over a dozen respondents so far, two of which visited yesterday and four of which will visit today. Somewhere in there we have to take back the Rug Doctor (late) which means renting the Zipcar again.
Zipcar = Jason confronting driving phobia from not having driven in a decade. I'd try it (I last drove 5 years ago), but I'm not on the account and it would be expensive to add me.
Rug Doctor was suggested to us as "It's just a $20 rental" by another home maintainer. $50 including chemicals (which we used all of), plus late fee because we couldn't get it done same day, plus $35 Zipcar = $100. Sigh.
This is why this is the first time we've done it in three years. It wouldn't even have been possible if the other housemates and their stuff weren't already gone. The housemates themselves (and their car) would have been helpful, but it always felt so crowded there was just no mental or physical space. It would have meant extracting the sewing corner.
Edit: I'm sure their perception is that it would have meant extracting my office. It is perhaps most precise to say that it would have meant both of the higher-stress people aligning their cleaning energy during the same 48-hour period. Which was tricky.
I feel like I've been beaten with a stick, and not in the good way. I hear you're supposed to do this carpet-cleaning thing every six months. Does anyone actually do this?
Meanwhile, getting this much done was wonderful, several hot dates in the last two weeks were wonderful, making new friends and doing interesting things every single day has been wonderful, and I've been too darn busy to finish that horrid book. Or post to LJ about my adventures.
