May. 21st, 2011 06:54 amTime since I've read LJ: 2 weeks? 3? I caught up just before the 3rd episode of Dr. Who aired, having finally watched the second half of the opener.
Time since I've been employed: 3 months.
Volunteer gigs I've committed to but not finished following through yet: 3.
Times I was That Guy on the Internet last week and just can't even believe I did that: 1. Ow. I obsess about these things far longer than is healthy and productive, to the point of still losing sleep and focus a week later. I can remember specific incidents of that particular kind of "oh god I did that" back to high school. I don't know how to let them go. Very annoying.
Anti-anxietals my doc has put me on (again): 2. It seems to be working, or at least my taking them has been immediately correlated with my getting masses of important house stuff done.
Landlord dramas: 1, kind of a big one, currently working out positively. Old (increasingly dangerous) handyman poured WATER in our OIL TANK for no discernable reason. Fortunately I happened to look out back a few minutes later. Also fortunately, the landlord's taking it seriously and actually having someone else do all work on our house from this point out.
Countdown to landlord visiting to talk seriously about catching up on house maintenance: "Within 4 weeks." He doesn't live in town and sounds honestly frustrated and contrite about letting things slide so long. Therefore, if we can make ourselves look like classy adults instead of cluttered students before he shows up, the contrast between our classy contents and deteriorating environment will be more effective.
Countdown to mathom party: Sooooooon. As I'm unemployed, if you ping me to make a date and come look at stuff pretty much any time, I'm good.
Stuff I'd like to see in good homes:
Cheap guitar in expensive case. It was a lot of fun trying to learn, and a treasured gift, and a lot of fun shopping for a case that probably cost more than the guitar, but at this point if I try learning again, we're talking years, so it needs to find a more loving and active environment. Yes, it's ok if you want it for the case.
Full box of Dr. Who Target novelisations, stack of Dr. Who trading cards, stack of New Adventures. (No, I'm keeping the Paul Cornells, nyeh.) Apparently the cards are worth a fair bit, as are some of the Targets, but I have NO idea or interest in doing the eBay dance. If someone else wants them just to personally enjoy them, they're free to you. If someone else wants them to sell, please send me a cut. :)
Chainmail knitting supplies. About 10 pounds of loose copper rings and two pair of pliers.
Pile of comics and geek books, and some pretty but impractical blank books. No, I'm not getting rid of everything I own, just finally living the dream of getting rid of a third of it. The third I really won't miss.
There will be more. That was just two days' work.

Date: 2011-05-21 06:08 pm (UTC)I do that too. Like the time in middle school when I walked into the boys' bathroom more or less on accident.
Or, when I happen to think about grad school, I have the same emotional response of "I'm tired and scared and I don't wanna" that I had for a lot of the end of school, and I have to consciously tell myself, "no, you're not tired, there's nothing to be scared of, that is in your past and it belongs there."
If you throw a mathom party I shall definitely be there. Well done you for getting rid of blank books. There's a small company that offers a yearly subscription of little pocket notebooks, against which I totally failed my will save.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:29 pm (UTC)B: "Times I was That Guy on the Internet last week and just can't even believe I did that" -- oh *cry* I'm finding myself there more and more often and I'm desperately afraid it's because I'm becoming a bigger jerk, not more aware of when I am a jerk. AIEEEEEE. No help, just empathy.
C: I suppose water in the oil tank might be less awful than the reverse, but only just. I had no idea that places in the PNW used oil heat: I thought that was purely a Northeast phenomenon.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:45 pm (UTC)B: usually a combination, but I suspect more awareness than increased jerkiness. I know mine is, because I can see myself usually making more advanced mistakes. Most of my massive self-kicking right now is I knew better. I did the thing I see people doing all the time and telling them to cut that crap out right now because they sound like obvious fools. This is me, wearing the obvious fool hat.
C: I'm just glad I saw immediately and it was summer. For extra efficiency, the system is that the oil tank feeds the oil furnace in the basement which pumps hot water through pipes in the CEILING of the main floor. (There is only the main floor and the basement.) We could have had heated floors, but nooooo. Stupid mid-century house.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:41 pm (UTC)@I would love to tap you for the blank books (I actually write in them!) and the guitar - I'm currently living with someone who can teach me how to play, which I've wanted to do since I was 8 years old.
@I would love to see or talk with you - to figure out how to arrange collection of the items in bullet number one (if they're available) and just to say hello. I miss seeing people in general, but I miss you in particular.
@I am graduating in 4 weeks (18 June) and will suddenly have free time I have not had in a couple of years - perhaps this might facilitate the previous bullet?
As of right now, my cel number is still active, but I'm not sure if I have a good number for you. Please let me know if the guitar and blank books are available, and if we can arrange collection or delivery.
Joy to you!

Date: 2011-05-21 08:49 pm (UTC)If you can arrange a ride over here, you can haul away as much as delights you, first pick. I can hold the guitar for you even if that takes a while, or if a car is impossible I can bring you just the guitar.

Date: 2011-05-22 01:31 am (UTC)I'll see what I can arrange by way of transportation when the folks I'm staying with come back from the street fair in the UDistrict. Might be a day or two before I can get there, depending on everyones what's what.
I will look up your number and call you first.
Also, if you are still looking to get rid of mathoms in mid-June, the northern portion of the formerly Haunted folks will be doing a Stuff Swap... 8)
Joy to you!

Date: 2011-05-21 09:49 pm (UTC)Re: remembering stupid/boneheaded/wrongheaded stuff for way longer than it's probably relevant, I was just dwelling on something like that the other day. Not sure what, and not going to try to recall it for concern of having it come back in force, but yeah, that sucks.
Re: Stuff!
I am extremely interested in the chainmail supplies and could probably cover shipping on them (would have to double check with
Any chance you could put together a more descriptive list of the "pile of comics and geek books"? It sounds tempting, but I probably don't want the whole pile... ~wry grin~

Date: 2011-05-23 12:30 am (UTC)Want to host a mathom party June 4? I will bring and possibly take stuff, and could do a goodwill run after if you liked.
I'm actually looking at finding a new job in a slightly different focus and would like to talk to you about some of what you've been doing. Want to e-mail me re: an evening to get together? Or could wait for a mathom party. :)

Date: 2011-05-24 03:44 pm (UTC)The fire under me right now is that we have a landlord visit coming an unspecified Soon, and I have now filled the living room with 1/3 of my possessions.
Maybe an "and there will be meatcake" birthday and more mathom party on the 4th. We'll see what the turnout is like on Saturday.
ETA: If you want to come over sooner than Saturday, I'm open. Give me a call.
