Because [livejournal.com profile] dragonblooms mentioned baking for Christmas, I flashed back...

A year ago to the day today, we aired (that is, played) the first episode of Madison the Vampire Slayer. Approximately three months ago, in early September, we ended the season and went our separate ways.

Nine months. There were pauses, there were scheduling problems, but I ran a game. Being able to say that, and have it mean a continuing story line with a beginning and an end and loyal players, means an incredible amount to me.

I never posted when the game ended. I was grieving it privately, I guess. When our villain bit the dust, it was like a space in my head went hollow; I hadn't realized he'd taken up full time residence, a background process that was always running, until he died and the whole thing shut down. I've had a gap there in the back of my mind for three months now. I'm about ready to fill it with something else but I don't know what.

These are people I need to thank.

[livejournal.com profile] dragonblooms: The best damn Slayer a director could ask for, you invented "vampire lung" and you gave me Pan.
[livejournal.com profile] cristoforio: The best damn Watcher a director could ask for, you never missed a game, you knew what holy water is good for and you brought Indiana Jones back to the Watchers. "Stupid girl!"
[livejournal.com profile] garillama: The best damn witch a director could ask for, you burned your hair off and played Fight Club with your evil twin for two months.
[livejournal.com profile] lapineken: The best damn robot a director could ask for, you staked a vampire with a drumstick, malfunctioned with grace and artistry, and shot our King of Pain.
[livejournal.com profile] cy4cypher: The best damn hacker a director could ask for, you put yourself bravely in the line of fire with no defenses and wore the Big Bad in your wristwatch.
Phil: The best damn King of Pain a director could ask for, your sword was two inches shorter than yourself, you took the Incredible Shrinking Phoenix gambit with patience and humor, you romanced the evil twin (heheh... twins), and you added that dollop of brooding angst that made it really Buffy.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] kitkatk8 for being the guest villain in our finale. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] wistol and [livejournal.com profile] capnexposition for consulting on mechanics and plot flow.

Finally, a very special thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] cinnamonteal, my partner in crime. Thank you for everything from moral support to garden gnomes. Let's do it again sometime.

No...thank YOU!

You were the best damn director any gamer could hope to be blessed or smote by! As flaky as I was a lot of the time, the game gave me a fun life in what would have otherwise been a quite dismal valley existence. I always wanted to be a robot, and I found that losing my head left me with a very satisfied feeling, like a hot bath after a hard day.
I bragged about the game endlessly and shamelessly to those who were especially horrified to hear that I played the Buffy RPG in the first place, and I'd say that indicates utter success for any GM.
