I want to chop my hair off. I want a slightly shaggy boy cut. I want to send the braid off to Locks of Love. I currently have about 14" long, braided, so even longer ponytailed.

I want to know how long the waiting period should be on a decision like this.

I want to know if you think it will look good.

Advice based on my own series of semi-drastic haircuts:
Do it. It will take some getting used to, and there will be times when you bemoan your choice, but the positives include quicker showers, easier care, the ability to use and carry a comb, and that horrified look on your friends' faces. Plus looking hot.

With my cut (which seems similar to what you want) I usually just wash and wear, and with my chronic habit of finger-combing, it turns out great and a little messy. I can also dress it up. It can look sensible, sensuously disheveled, punk rawk, flippy, cute, or just plain messy. Warning: you may have to learn to use accessories! I'm a big fan of headbands. You might also want to cultivate a side part rather than middle (totally opinion on my part, do what you like). I want to come play with your new hair!!!
