I have a doctor's appointment in an hour and didn't do my homework. First person who gives me a full list of STDs that I should be tested for gets a cookie.

I said full testing and she did HIV/Gonorrhea/Chlamydia and that's IT. I was so dumbfounded that I forgot to dig out my list from last time I did this. Help?

It's my understanding, from talking to the nice lady at PP when I last went in and requested this, that there isn't a good test for this, that the only ways of testing are visual and cervical smear indicating neoplastic cells. I'd be interested in finding out differently, although she had a BS in microbiology.

There's a test for the most dangerous strains, called the Hybrid Capture II HPV DNA test. I think it can only be done on women, though, and is rather new and sometimes hard to get. The FDA has approved it for women over 30; if you're under 30 you have to explicitly ask for it, and may have to talk your doctor into it.

I don't know that much about it; someone on livejournal posted a link a couple of months ago. So take with a shaker of salt.
