I'm on day 4 of a very painful spot on the roof of my mouth, in a spot where it's pressed hard every time I spit, swallow, or chew. Yesterday I ate only soft starches and whimpered a lot. One of the lymph nodes on that side is sore, so I'm calling the consulting nurse today, but I think it's just a scratch that got out of hand. I need to buy another bottle of everything-killing mouthwash, and eating pickles feels nice, but has not had much of an effect. Anbesol does not seem to be labeled for use inside the mouth. Sigh.

Here's the best part: my loving partner's advice is to RUB SALT IN THE WOUND. I did so, last night and this morning. Not to abrade it, but just to stick a pile of salt to the area with my thumb and leave it there until I want to scream. The theory is that the healthy cells will be able to take the strain but the bothersome cells will die off, discouraging infection and toughening up the area.

Ow, ow, ow. Pain sucks.

Grad school rules, though. I got into Nancy Pearl's class after all. (Hear me squeeing.)

Squee! Nancy Pearl!

I always rub toothpaste on such things myself. Not brush them but just daub a giant glop of it on there.... Sometimes it helps.
