Hey, guys,
Each time I swear I'll start being better about posting regularly. Each time I seem to be Lying. You only hear from me when I need to shout out about something, like a party or a request for help. Guess which one this is! (Well, actually it's both.)
I'm moving! To Greenlake! It's wonderful! Holy schnikes, do I need help!
The current plan: The 31st (Wednesday), rent a U-Haul, get someone to drive it from UW to Broadway, pack everything into it. (Park it in Greenlake?) The 1st (Thursday), get someone to drive it up to Greenlake if it's not there already. Carry everything into New House (name pending). Get someone to drive U-Haul from Greenlake back to U-District.
I haven't talked to the landlord yet about the possibility of getting access to New House on the 31st. If I can get that, the time-table may move forward somewhat.
How You Can Help!
Are you available to drive a 10' U-Haul truck short distances through Seattle on either Wednesday the 31st or Thursday the 1st?
Do you enjoy carrying boxes of books from one place to another? Even showing up for an hour after work or something would be wonderful.
Do you have helpful suggestions on how to keep all my earthly possessions from being stolen during the night?
What You'll Get
"Preferred" status at my housewarming party.
Snacks, soft drinks, moral support and good company throughout the moving process.
A homecooked meal at New House, either the evening of September 1st or to be scheduled later as you prefer.
First crack at the suggestion box for naming our new home.
Undying gratitude, as per usual.
Edit: Schnickin' Schnackin'... Argh. Need to nail down these cursed schedules. Need to know whether I have access to House on the 31st, otherwise this is all just hand-waving. And the closest truck is Queen Anne, which makes Friend With Car look a lot more necessary to get these logistics to work.

Date: 2005-08-22 07:30 pm (UTC)Carrying boxes of books is not good for me, but I can bring my hand truck (presuming I can find it...)
If (a) it isn't raining or (b) I have the window replaced on my car by then (almost certain), you're welcome to park the U-haul in my garage that night, if it fits (the garage is 10x10x20').

Date: 2005-08-22 11:40 pm (UTC)So we're looking at Queen Anne. Which is fine if we're bussing over there during the day, not so hot if I turn out to need to wait for someone to get off work. I'm not sure how to balance these things.

Date: 2005-08-23 05:39 pm (UTC)OK, so, on the subject of the two-week warning, what kind of advance arrangements should I be working on? I know to bring spare passport photos. How often will we have access to laundry? (It will inform how many days clothing I pack.)
I have heard rumours that I need to talk to my credit card company, and possibly get some kind of "travel card" issued? And I have never dealt with traveller's checks before.
Hi, clueless new traveller. Do you have my home number? I'll e-mail it to you. I'm fretting.

Date: 2005-08-23 05:38 pm (UTC)Hey there, former uber-sidekick! I recently moved as well and found it verrryy useful to use a U-Haul open trailer. They are cheap ($20/day no mileage) and prolly available short notice. Hopefully you have handy pal with required vehicle hitch, but if not I have a hitch on my puny car that is good for pulling moderate loads < 800 lbs, and could possibly help out some evening. good luck or ping me... Date: 2005-08-23 05:44 pm (UTC)I've already reserved a 10' closed truck, because it looks like I'll be holding stuff overnight. If you want to come, help out, hang out, and otherwise hobnob with fellow wizards, you're very welcome. I'll email you with my address.
Hello
Date: 2005-08-25 08:45 am (UTC)Ummm God.... I think I might be in over my head. Why did I ever think I could GM a Buffy game?
Re: Hello
Date: 2005-08-25 09:28 pm (UTC)I bought you a peep in a chocolate egg, but I think it got lost before I figured out how to get it to you.
marilee@ravensanctuary.com to continue this conversation... I'd love to help.
